Below are some surfaces extracted from volumetric images (z-stack) of live yeast or mammalian cells. The programs ImageJ and UCSF Chimera have been used for processing and/or exporting 3DWeb-compatible data. 3D visualization is based on X3DOM and Three.js.
One can zoom-in or -out (right mouse button) and also rotate images (click + drag).

Surface visualization (plus z-Stack and Logo)

Data processing with UCSF Chimera and 3D visualization with X3DOM. X3DOM supports the MP4 video format as VideoTexture, but apparently only on Windows platforms. The OGV video format (to be obtained with tools such as Video Converter) seems to be portable and supported on Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms.
