MSc/PhD program
Molecular Biosciences
Major Molecular and Cellular Biology
Welcome to the MCB program!
The Faculty of Biosciences of the University of Heidelberg has launched the international MSc/PhD program Molecular Biosciences. All of the teaching will be in English and we welcome students from all over the world. As part of this new program, students are given the opportunity to shape their interests and skills by focussing on particular topics in the course of a Major.
The Major Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) covers molecular aspects of fundamental cellular processes, including gene expression, pathways and mechanisms of protein trafficking, protein folding, intracellular organisation and communication, macromolecular structures and interactions, and control of biochemical pathways, using a range of prokaryotic and eukaryotic model systems.
The MSc degree qualifies for entry to European doctoral programmes, and also for a variety of other careers. This particular course places a strong emphasis on original research and is therefore ideal for students who wish to obtain a PhD in relevant subjects. Heidelberg is famous for its concentration of world-class biological research laboratories, many of which are open to students on our MSc course.
