Directions

The ZMBH is a center for both research and higher education in basic and biomedical biology. Our research aims at fundamental questions of molecular and cellular biology at the level of molecules, cells and organisms. Examples of research topics are the control of cell proliferation and growth, the biogenesis and quality control of proteins, and the expression and epigenetic regulation of genes. The analysis of these basic processes is important to understand how organisms maintain health, why diseases develop and how aging comes about. Joint research interests resulted in the formation of the DKFZ-ZMBH-Alliance, a close collaboration of the ZMBH with the research program Cell and Tumor Biology of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).
