BIO
Roberto Covino is W3 Professor of Computational Life Science at the Institute of Computer Science at Goethe University Frankfurt, and a Senior Fellow at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies. His research uses theory, simulation, and statistical modelling of experiments to understand how biomolecular functions emerge from the interplay between structure, dynamics, and complexity. He focuses on understanding the mechanism of key events in proteins and cellular membranes. RC studied physics and theoretical physics at the University of Bologna and obtained his PhD in physics at the University of Trento. He was appointed Professor of AI in Protein Science at Bayreuth University in 2023 and received the call to Goethe University in 2024.

The Faculty for Biosciences announces the second edition of a public lecture series entitled "Bio(R)evolution: new Faces, new Ideas, new Horizons" on May 18th 2026 at 6 p.m. in the Large Lecture Hall in INF230 (COS).
This series is meant to introduce newly appointed or co-opted professors of our faculty to the academic community. On that occasion our new colleagues will present their past achievements, ongoing projects, and the potential societal impact of their work.
The target audience includes faculty members, students, researchers, and the general public interested in biosciences. The lecture format typically involves two presentations of 20-25 minutes each by the newly appointed or co-opted professor, followed by a moderated discussion on the societal implications of their research. The event concludes with a small reception.
A registration is not required, but for planning reasons a feedback would be helpful.

About the Symposium
Heidelberg University and Technical University Mannheim are joining forces for a one-day interdisciplinary symposium designed to explore the exciting interfaces between Medicine and Life Sciences on the one hand, and Technology, Engineering and Applied Research on the other. This event marks a significant step towards turning research results into real-world solutions and into deepening the existing partnership between our two institutions. It brings together researchers, faculty, and leadership from both universities to identify shared scientific interests, spark new collaborations, and lay the groundwork for joint projects and initiatives.
The symposium is open to all researchers, postdoctoral scientists, and PhD students with an interest in the thematic areas listed below.

The symposium will explore synergies and common interests across the following research areas:
